League Game - 6th January 2013

Points mean prizes; Lanes need to keep picking up points now they have dropped two of them against Admiral. PUTNEY TOWN v AFC LANES - Putney are unbeaten this season in the league at home, so Lanes would have to be at 100% today.

The game kicked off behind as the ref was late and the game had to be officiated by Lanes referee qualified coach Marko, but this only lasted 10minutes as the ref arrived. The teams could not be separated in the first 15minutes but Lanes looked the more likely of the two, to stick one in the onion bag. Although Lanes started to apply pressure Putney managed to hit the bar from a deflected shot which had great effect in wakening the Lanes attackers into action.

Dan looked again very impressive in midfield, Putney are a very big unit and although he did not win much in the air, his constant hounding of the ball and high-intensity work rate meant Putney kept losing the ball. The back four were very solid and make-shift CB Daryl was very impressive winning anything the other CB Dan did not, with Chris and Richard also playing well it was hard to see how Putney were going to score.

The ball was slipped through into Matt who was just inside the box and had his shot blocked which spun into the air. Matt controlled the ball onto his knee and volleyed it in close to the post giving the keeper no chance. 0-1

Putney then kept better possession and created some chances which resulted in a few corners but were starting to look tired over the pitch as when they did lose the ball they were chasing great interplay between the Lanes team and it was not long before this play resulted in a great goal. Started from the back and was switched twice, Matt received the ball in a dangerous position and slipped Martyn through 1on1 with the keeper, he rounded the keeper and put the ball into the back of the net. 0-2

The second half saw the introduction of Joel upfront and had a great spell. He was very unlucky not to capitalise on a few chances but Lanes chances were becoming sparse as the Gaffer switched formation to more defensive to see out the game. Putney did win a few more corners and saw their only real chance saved expertly by the Lanes keeper.

Lanes were very in control today and could only be accused of taking the foot off the gas, passing was much better and the back four were immense. Terrance and Joel linked up well when they came on, Pete had a quiet but effective game and was a shame to see Newton rush back too early and go off injured. This game suited Lanes front two of Martyn and Matt with Matt's skill having a place to shine today. Simon has played much better but done his job when needed and his partner in midfield Dan ran his socks off. Good game played by all, the gaffer got the tactics spot on.
