League Game - 17th February 2013

Players missing was the key theme today as Lanes had to delve into the squad to pick the first team. ROYAL ADMIRAL v AFC LANES - This game was very important and could make or break Lanes season.

Both teams knew the importance of today and it did not start well for Lanes as they were given the wrong postcode so the preparation for the game was rushed. The first half was very cat and mouse with both teams coming close, Lanes had the better spells of football but it was Admiral getting the shots on target only to met by an inform Lanes keeper. The pick of the saves came mid-way through the half as a shot was plucked out of the corner.

Lanes best chance fell to top scorer Martyn who, after great interchange with Daryl found himself with just the keeper to beat on the edge of the box, the shot was struck well but straight at the keeper. Martyn is going throug his dry spell at a very bad time for Lanes!

In the second half Lanes were very guilty of losing possession with plenty of misplaced passes and the battle of the mid-field was slowly being dominated by Admiral. The battle was not for the faint hearted but Simon was coping although fellow mid-fielder Dan had seemed to have burnt up all his energy during the first half "shutting down the ball and giving it his all".

Poetry aside the game started to get ugly with cheap fouls being missed by the ref all over the pitch and it compounded into a cynical charge on one of Admirals corners. The result was a concussed CB Dan who before the foul was everywhere in the heart of the defence, winning everything, but after some treatment off the pitch could only watch as the goal went in from the next resulting corner. 1-0

With the re-introduction of Dan N, Lanes started to push on for the equaliser but was matched by a Admiral who now had their tails up. It was not long after another couple of fine saves by the Lanes keeper they scored again. This time a fortunate deflection saw former Lanes player Mark Martin through one-on-one to slot the ball home, which was the first time he had been out of the centre backs pockets. 2-0

The hail mary was now being used but it was too late and with 5 minutes to go Admiral scored the last goal of the game with very poor marking by Lanes and a back post slot in gave Admirall their third goal. 3-0
